Some drones, unmanned spy planes, nearly hit some helicopters over Wiltshire, according to a news. This alarmed me. Not because of the near collision, but - what are the army doing spying on Wiltshire? I thought they were supposed to do that sort of thing in Afghanistan, and so on. Is there something they're not telling us? Is Osama Bin Laden hiding out in Wiltshire? It would explain a few things. No wonder they've never been able to catch him in Afghanistan. They've not been able to track him since he went into his network of caves in Tora Bora, have they? Maybe one of those tunnels led to Wiltshire. It would also explain why his tapes are all audio-only these days - it would distract from his message if people were watching and thinking 'that looks like the back room of a pub!' or 'is that a bedsit?' The only other theory I have is that they're trying to see if XTC are working on a new album, and that would be stupid. One, they split up five years ago, a simple bit of googling would have told them that, and two, how would that be military business anyway? Unless they think that they've been hiding Bin Laden, and that they split up so they could devote more time to him. But I think that's probably not true.
Here, by the way begins a new era for It Is What It Is - or another temporary state of affairs, like so many before. I've noticed a lot recently when recording the audio version that I've made typos, or even worse omitted important words completely, in the textual version, and then gone to change them. So I've decided that I will try and always record an audio version before the text version goes up, and hopefully that should eradicate any mistooks.
What is a degree worth? A lot of people work very hard for degrees. Some buy them, but those ones don't count. And some people just get given them. Some honorary degrees are given to very deserving people who've done a lot of important work in their field. Sometimes they change their mind later - Edinburgh University took back the one they give to Robert Mugabe. I'm unsure as to whether I'd accept one if I were offered one. But Dominic West? I was reading that he's being given an honorary degree from Sheffield Hallam University for services to the arts. Now, I liked The Wire, and I liked him in it, but really? Hallam have history here, it's not long since they gave an honorary degree to Jarvis Cocker, who I'd say was a worthy recipient, and he did study there a bit, but it looks like they'd have given him one even if he wasn't. It looks like if Noel Edmonds had been born in Sheffield they'd have been trying to give him one of their 'hey look at us!' honorary degrees. Sort it out, Hallam, you look desperate!
that's all from me for now
see you around
