When I saw the headline US to try Rwandan in Kansas I thought they were going for a meal. But no, when I clicked the link in the feed the headline on the page said US government to try African in Kansas on Rwanda-linked charges. Bah! Less interesting. Now I come to think of it, though, I've never seen a Rwandan restaurant. But there must be Rwandan cuisine, surely? Ah yes, here. Sounds nice enough, although basic.
The Pentagon is about to release "hundreds" of photographs showing the alleged abuse of prisoners in Iraq and Afghanistan, US officials say. Apparently they're releasing them on May 28. I don't approbe. They should save them for Jessmas. Make a charity calendar out of them. The 2009 Alleged Prison Abuse Calendar, proceeds to the Sorry We Crossed The Line Trust. I find the use of the word 'alleged' intriguing - are the photos in question all ambiguous? Can you not tell if that guy is punching another guy or if he's giving him a fist bump and the guy's moved his arm at the last moment to scratch his leg? Is it unclear whether the prisoner is hooded against his will or they're accommodating a fetish? A Pentagon spokesman downplayed allegations of widespread abuse, saying it had acted swiftly to discipline some 400 personnel found to be involved in abuses. Over alleged abuses? That's not fair!
